The Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Foundation board has six new directors.

A statement from the organisation, which aims to improve health and healthcare on the island, said they are Andrew Gibbs, Angela Atherden, Richard Lau, Harriet Stuckes, Nevine Lewis and treasurer Sally-Anne Baron.

Jane Spurling, chair of the board for the foundation, said the directors “bring a wide range of experience in finance, compliance, information technology, law, marketing, human resources and law to the board.”

She added: “The appointments are timely as the BHCF positions itself to embark on a new fundraising strategy to fulfil its mission in support of the Bermuda Hospitals Board, and the delivery of healthcare services to the people of Bermuda.”

Mr Gibbs is the chief operating officer at PartnerRe who has chaired the board of directors of several licensed insurers.

Ms Atherden is the managing director of Apex Corporate Services and a member of the Bermuda Bar Association and the Institute of Directors.

Mr Lau has worked in Bermuda’s technology infrastructure for more than 20 years and has served on the board of the e-commerce advisory committee and Belco.

Ms Stuckes is an oncology nurse at the Bermuda Cancer & Health Centre.

Ms Lewis, the Bermuda country manager for DCG International Investments, has more than 20 years’ experience as a business and investment analyst.

Ms Baron, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the financial and professional services industry, sits on the boards of the Meyer Group of Companies and Hiscox Re ILS.

Ms Spurling also thanked the organisation’s continuing directors and those recently retired.

Kim Pratt, BHCF executive director, said: “The board and I are honoured to welcome these community leaders who join the BHCF in carrying out its mission to support the Bermuda Hospitals Board, and ultimately the lives of those in our community.”
