Registration opens for senior games
Registration is open for the Move More Bermuda Senior Games, the Ministry of Health announced today.
People aged 50 and older can register for the free event, which will be held at the Flora Duffy Stadium from 1pm to 5pm on May 19.
Participants will explore their athletic skills in track and field events, from the 60 metre dash to the 3,000 metre long distance race.
They will also have a chance to compete in the long jump, shot put, and mixed 4x4 relay events.
The registration fee is $10, and the ministry said the first 100 people who register will receive a goody bag.
Participants can take advantage of free training sessions with De-Von Bean in the lead-up to the event.
The sessions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 7.15pm at the Flora Duffy Stadium.
Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health said: “This event is part of the Department of Health's Move More Bermuda initiative, designed to emphasise the significance of including more physical activity into our daily routines.
"I urge those aged 50 and above to seize this opportunity for fun and games.
“Any form of physical activity, no matter how small, contributes to overall health and vitality.
“I enjoyed the enthusiasm displayed at last year's games. It was exciting; everyone enjoyed themselves, the active participants and the spectators.”
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, added: “There is a changing attitude towards ageing, with many people becoming more active.
“The Move More Bermuda Senior Games is a great way to promote healthy and active ageing while celebrating seniors' talents and abilities in the community.”
The health department and the Bermuda National Athletics Association will partner with other government and private sector organisations to host the event.
To register, visit trackie.com/event/movemorebda or collect and complete an entry form at the Ministry of Health headquarters in the Continental Building at 25 Church Street in Hamilton. The registration deadline is May 17.
