Free course launched to empower dementia caregivers
A new online course is designed to support caregivers for people with dementia in Bermuda.
Northstar Dementia launched The Compass Guide to Dementia Care, which offers 12 modules that guide people through the caring process.
A spokeswoman said: “There are estimated to be as many as 3,000 Bermudians living with dementia and 80 per cent of care is currently provided by family members who report high levels of caregiver burnout.
“Many caregivers describe their experiences as being a ‘constantly moving target’ with every day bringing new challenges and learning.
“We want you to know that you are not alone in this journey.
“This free online resource can be accessed when you need the information, at a time that is most convenient for you.”
Topics include understanding dementia, planning for the future, daily care strategies and navigating the healthcare system.
The course also features interviews with patients living with dementia, their caregivers and healthcare professionals.
The spokeswoman added: “NorthStar Dementia is pleased to have received the support of Centennial Bermuda Foundation’s community health and fundamental needs committee through their grant for the development of this educational resource.”
