Public servants to walk throughout Hamilton
Public servants will participate in a wellness walk throughout Hamilton tomorrow.
A government spokeswoman said the walk was being held to celebrate the 115th anniversary of the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, will open the event on the Cabinet grounds at midday.
Walkers, who will include past derby winners Kavin Smith, Debbie Butterfield, Ed Sherlock and Cal Bean, will leave the Cabinet at about 12.30pm and walk along Front Street, Queen Street, Parliament Street, Dundonald Street and Court Street.
Residents were invited to register for the walk by visiting this link. Limited T-shirts will be provided, and participants should bring their own reusable water bottles.
The event may result in some traffic delays and was scheduled to finish by 1.30pm. .
The spokeswoman added that 76 public servants — including 27 runners, 21 speed-walkers and seven relay teams — will take part in Friday’s half-marathon.
Cherie-Lynn Whitter, the head of the Public Service, said: “We believe health and wellness is paramount for the wellbeing of our employees.
“So we’re very pleased that a team of 76 public officers came together to celebrate this year’s Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby in such an engaging way.
“We encourage the community to cheer on our public service runners and walkers as they make their way along the race route.”
