The community is invited to join an annual walk in October to highlight the importance of breast-cancer screening.

The 28th edition of the BF&M Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, presented by the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, will take place on October 16 from 6pm at Barr's Bay Park.

Registration for the event opens on September 1.

The charity said: “This year, we’re walking with a purpose — to spread the message that early detection is lemon protection.”

It added: “Every step you take helps raise awareness and supports the vital work of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre in the fight against breast cancer.”

The cancer centre said the event will be an evening of celebration, education and fundraising “as we bloom together” in the fight for a healthier Bermuda.

As well as the walk, the gathering will feature a health fair and music.

The charity said: “Whether you’re strutting in style, power walking with friends, or strolling with family, your participation makes a world of difference.”

It added that regular self-checks, screenings and mammograms could catch cancer early when it was most treatable.

The cancer centre said: “Early detection is lemon protection, so we encourage our loved ones to get screened – because we’re all in this together.”
