Flu vaccination drive postponed
A scheduled flu vaccination drive has been postponed, the Ministry of Health said today.
A spokeswoman said the “Flu Express”, which was planned for September 24, 28 and October 2, would be rescheduled for later next month.
She explained: “This postponement is due to the unavailability of vaccines for individuals aged 65 and older, which have not yet arrived on the island.
“The new Flu Express dates will be announced soon and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said: “Since most of the people who rely on the mobile Flu Express are seniors, we felt it was important to delay the service until we have enough vaccine supply specifically for those aged 65 and older.
“The flu vaccine is free for seniors and we know how much they value the convenience of the drive-through service, which makes getting their flu shot quicker and easier.
“We’re looking forward to announcing new dates very soon.”
Anyone younger than 65 can get flu vaccinations at doctors’ offices or the Hamilton Health Centre on Victoria Street by appointment.
The ministry urged everyone aged six months and older to get the flu vaccine, which costs $20 per shot, which can be paid in cash or online.
