The Department of Health will offer free HIV testing on Monday morning to recognise World Aids Day.

A spokeswoman for the department said the free testing at the Hamilton Health Centre is intended to encourage proactive steps towards health and wellbeing, while highlighting the importance of people knowing their HIV status.

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said: “HIV testing is a crucial step in breaking the stigma around the virus and ensuring early detection and treatment, which can significantly improve quality of life.

“The Hamilton Health Centre’s commitment to making testing accessible and free underlines the importance of this year's theme, which highlights the collective responsibility of communities to support those affected by HIV/Aids.

“Testing is simple, quick and potentially life-saving.

“Together, we can create a healthier, more informed Bermuda.”

The free, confidential testing will take place between 9am and noon on December 16 at the Hamilton Health Centre on Victoria Street.

Because spaces are limited, anyone interested was urged to make an appointment by calling 246-7711, extension 8223018.
