Hospital goes green to shine a light on mental health
The Bermuda Hospitals Board has joined forces with a Bermudian-based human rights group to remind the public to safeguard their mental health.
The board has entered its third year of the Empathy in Action movement with Bermuda is Love.
BHB illuminated King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s Point Finger Road main entrance in green, the international colour for mental health, to honour the campaign.
Anna Nelson-Williams, the BHB’s Acting Chief of Staff, said that empathy stood for more than helping someone, but meant connecting on a personal level.
She added: “Compassion is a form of empathy that can have a beneficial impact on the mental wellbeing of the giver as well as the recipient.
Dr Nelson-Williams called on the community to reflect on life and health when driving past the green holiday lighting.
Bermuda is Love said that the #EmpathyInAction campaign was meant to foster a culture of understanding, encouraging others to see problems from the perspectives of those who face them.
The group added: “With this understanding, we encourage everyone to act with kindness and contribute to tangible solutions.
“When we help others — whether by offering our time, skills or resources — we not only address immediate needs but also gain insights into their lives and challenges.
“Participating in acts of service nurtures a deep sense of our shared humanity, of our connectedness to one another, reminding us of the strength in unity and collective effort.”
