Six candy stripers were honoured for their “outstanding work commitment” by the Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda.

The volunteers were recognised for their service at an event on January 11 at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Azariah Greaves, who received the Penny Ray Achievement Award, was named Head Candy Striper for 2024-25.

Glen Gibbons, the president of the charity, told the volunteers: “Your hours of service to the hospital are truly appreciated not only by the Hospitals Auxiliary but also by the departments you serve and the patients.

“I know there are other clubs and organisations you could have joined and chosen to volunteer with, but I’m grateful and proud that you opted to join us at the Hospitals Auxiliary.”

He said Ms Greaves was recognised for her work ethic, the hours she volunteered and excellent attitude with her peers, volunteers and supervisors.

Five proficiency awards were handed out to candy stripers who demonstrated outstanding work commitment and hours to the programme.

The awards were presented to Surayya Trott Cann, who completed 306 hours and 30 minutes of service, Starr Bowen, who completed 200 hours of service, and Kaitelyn Smith, who completed 172 hours and 30 minutes of service.

Destiny Parsons-Simmons and Kimara Cole, who completed 150 hours of service, were also recognised.

At the event, attended by 40 people, Mr Gibbons thanked the candy stripers for being part of the HAB volunteer programme and emphasised the importance of their work.
