A paediatric practice has expanded and moved to a new Hamilton location.

As well as its move to the Vallis Building, Edgewood Paediatric Services, which provides medical care for infants, children and adolescents, is introducing new services and community programmes aimed at supporting families at every stage of their child’s development.

Kristen Woodward said the practice is committed to providing “expert, trusted care in a family-centred environment”.

Dr Woodward added: “Our new location allows us to enhance our services and provide more support to help children thrive.”

Stephen Kenny announced that Heather O’Connell, a neonatal and paediatric nurse, is to join the practice.

He said: “With over 30 years of experience in paediatric care, nurse Heather brings an invaluable level of expertise and compassion to our practice.”

Further offerings

Edgewood Paediatric Services is now officially a breastfeeding-friendly space as part of the Government’s Breastfeeding Friendly Designation Campaign.

“Breastfeeding provides unparalleled health benefits for both infants and mothers, and we want to create a welcoming, supportive environment for breastfeeding families,” said Kristen Woodward, who is part of the team at the practice.

Edgewood will also offer free prenatal classes for expectant parents.

The first session takes place on April 12 at 11am.

The practice is also launching Edgewood Reads, a programme that integrates books into well-child visits and promotes early literacy.

Through this programme, children receive an age-appropriate book at each developmental checkup from six months to five years old.

Parents receive guidance and resources on fostering a reading habit at home.

“As paediatricians, we see families regularly throughout a child’s early years, and this gives us a unique opportunity to encourage reading from the start,” said Stephen Kenny, also on the Edgewood team.

“By giving parents a book during each checkup, we hope to help families create moments of connection that foster lifelong learning.”

Edgewood Reads is inspired by the American-based Reach Out and Read programme, which integrates literacy into paediatric care.

Edgewood provides services including well-child visits and same-day sick visits.

It also offers routine immunisations, neonatal and high-risk infant care, support from a certified lactation counsellor, and registered nurse support.

Edgewood works with local and overseas specialists including on referrals for various forms of therapy.

It invited families to visit its new offices in the Vallis Building, 58 Par-la-Ville Road, to learn about the expanded services and community programmes.
