Men’s LeaguePanthers 2 Polecats 6Donnie Simmons smashed four goals to tie Chameleons’ Richard Cox as the league’s leading goalscorer with 15 as Polecats romped to a comfortable victory.With the season nearing its conclusion, Polecats took the opportunity to field junior players Reuben Bulhoes, Josh Stevens and Donte Kellman.The game began with Panthers managing to put out just eight players which included junior Justin Ray.Polecats broke through in the 10th minute through Simmons from a penalty corner. He then doubled his team’s lead in the 11th minute with a similar effort.With Panthers now at full strength as additional reinforcements arrived, their attack began to pick up steam.The sides traded attacks throughout the remainder of the first half but Polecats extended their lead when Byron Rencken scored from another penalty corner.In the 26th minute, Polecats earned a penalty stroke when a pass from midfielder Andrew Brouwer released Hannes Robbertze who was fouled by the Panthers goalkeeper. Simmons converted to complete his hat-trick.Panthers continued to fight hard and were rewarded for their efforts when Jack Finlay played a nice one-two combination with Jeremy Shrubb in the 29th minute that resulted in Finlay beating ’keeper Jason Ming.Panthers drew first blood in the second half in the 40th minute when Tony Ward dribbled the ball past the Polecats defence and fired home to cut the score to 4-2.But Polecats responded two minutes later with Richard Marriott scoring from a penalty corner before Simmons netted his fourth.Women’s A LeagueBudgies A 1 Ravens A 0Budgies were determined to make a game of it against title winners Ravens in the last league game of the season.They scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute when Keishae Robinson’s shot dropped into the net.
