Hockey season set for curtain raiser
The Bermuda Hockey Federation (BHF) season will kick off this weekend with a full round of games on the schedule.With repairs to the hockey surface at the National Sports Centre (NSC) now finished, teams will take to the field in what will be a shortened season.There will new sides vying for top honours throughout the leagues with the Rebels, one of the longest serving teams in the league, disbanding the side for various reasons.Their loss was other teams gains as some of their players have joined the remaining men’s teams, which should aide in maintaining a very competitive league.Polecats have found themselves able to field a second team called Spartans, which is mainly comprised of younger members with some veteran players providing guidance and experience alongside them.The remaining teams competing for the Men’s league title are Panthers, Chameleons and Upstarts.The Ladies ‘A’ League have lost the Swallows A team due to decreased numbers.Four teams will compete for the title in the division, with champions Ravens, Canaries, Wildcats, and Budgies all more than capable of winning the league.The Ladies ‘B’ league has seen an increase in numbers to eight teams with Swallows, Longtails, Ravens, Wildcats, Bluebirds, Cardinals, Canaries and Budgies each seeking to claim top prize.
