Simmons keeps Upstarts in their place
A Donovan Simmons brace helped the Spartans to a 2-1 come from behind win over the Upstarts in the Men’s Division.
The Upstarts were ahead as early as the third minute, when an unmarked Tyler Smith fired a low shot home.
The lead would last for eight minutes, with the Spartans equalising through Simmons’s first of the game from a penalty corner.
He would then give his side a lead that they would not relinquish, in the 61st minute, when Richard Minors played a through-ball into an open channel for the game’s hero to tuck home.
Tse Minors and Jasmine Patterson were both on the scoresheet as Budgies beat Ravens 2-0 in Women’s A Division action.
Minors got the opening goal of the match in the 34th minute after a Keishae Robinson shot was deflected into the path of Minors, who made no mistake from close range.
Patterson then doubled the lead in the 53rd after being put behind the Ravens backline by Azari Thomas, placing her effort to the goalkeeper’s right.
The Wildcats got the better of the Ravens in the Women’s B Division, thanks to Suzanne Moniz.
Moniz grabbed what proved to be the winner in the 24th minute, when she was the recipient of a Gemma Godfrey cross into the heart of the Ravens penalty area.
Longtails edged the Canaries 1-0, courtesy of a late winner from an own goal. Maya Palacio’s wayward shot was deflected goalwards three minutes from time to settle the match.
Vanessa Carroca got the Budgies maximum points in their encounter with the Swallows, beating their rivals 1-0.
Carroca’s goal came in the 28th minute after Thomas, the youngster who was repeating the form that had won for her a place in the A Division team, beat her markers down the right flank and laid the ball into the area for the eventual winner.
