Swallows grounded by Soares

A real thumping: Budgies put five past Bluebirds (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Budgies thumped Bluebirds 5-1 and Ravens squeezed past Swallows 3-2 in the Senior Women’s League at the National Sports Centre yesterday.

Carolyn Soares scored twice in the space of nine minutes to set up the Ravens win, after Anefa Burke had given Swallows the lead in the 26th minute.

A Jessica Hollis effort from a penalty corner dragged Ravens level, before Soares struck in the 39th and 48th minutes.

Natash Hallinan got Swallows back in the game in the 56th minute before Ravens held on.

In the first game of the day Budgies were far too strong for their opponents, scoring five times before Bluebirds found the net.

Keishae Robinson opened the scoring with a penalty strike in the fourteenth minute, Sam Davies extended the lead three minutes later, with Lakae Tavares and Kascia White adding goals in the 35th and 50th minute. Robinson had Budgies’s final say, scoring in the 63rd minute.

Bluebirds’s consolation effort in the dying seconds from Christine DaCosta counted for little.
