Field hockey spoils shared
Saltus Grammar School dominated the primary school girls field hockey at the National Sports Centre. Saltus finished the round robin B Division undefeated with a perfect 4-0 record to claim the gold medal. West End Primary finished second with a record of three wins and one loss.
Saltus then played 15 minutes of extra time with Heron Bay Primary School before tournament organisers agreed to let both schools share the spoils and named both schools A Division champions. The decision was made in the spirit of fairness and sportsmanship and was welcomed by both coaches as the teams started to show signs of fatigue.
Saltus defeated Warwick academy 2-0 in the semi-finals, with Evie Hook scoring both goals. Heron Bay got past Harrington Sound 3-0 in the other semi, with Aureeyana Litchmore scoring two and Anaya Williams the other.
Williams and Litchmore scored one a piece in their 2-0 quarter-final win over Somersfield Academy. Saltus defeated West End 3-0 with two more goals from Hook and one from Asha Dunleavy. Hailey Trott scored a sudden-death goal for Harrington Sound to defeat BHS, while Warwick Academy sneaked past Gilbert Institute.
