Bermuda women’s hockey team to take on New York squad

The Bermuda women’s hockey team will step up their preparations for the Central American and Caribbean Games by hosting a three-game tournament against Big Apple Hockey Federation, from New York.

The Bermuda Onions v Big Apple Tournament, which be held at the National Sports Centre from March 10 to 12, will give the women’s national team an opportunity to gain important match practice ahead of the CAC Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in June and July.

“As the Bermuda Women’s National Field Hockey Team continue their preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games, this tournament weekend will provide a high standard of competition for the team to formally practice their principles in a game situation,” the Bermuda Hockey Federation said in a statement.

“Big Apple Hockey Federation is an organisation formed out of the need for more competitive and quality field hockey on the East Coast. The director of BAHF, Nigel Traverso, will be travelling with the Big Apple team bringing his experience as a former United States International field hockey player who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

“Entry to the tournament is free, and we welcome the public to come and support our National Women’s Training Team and give a big welcome to Big Apple Hockey for a weekend of high-level hockey.”

The first match on Friday, March 10, will start at 6pm, with the following day’s game at 11am and the final encounter on Sunday at 11.30am.
