Women’s hockey team in disappointing finish to CAC Games
It was a disappointing end for Bermuda’s women hockey team at the Central American and Caribbean Games as they lost 4-2 to Puerto Rico in a seventh-place play-off on Wednesday.
The loss means Bermuda finish the tournament with just one win, a 4-0 triumph over Puerto Rico last Saturday, and have finished last in three consecutive CAC Games after they did so in 2010 and 2014.
Yvonna Osborne gave Bermuda the lead with a field goal only for Alexis Morales to find the target for Puerto Ricoas the first quarter ended 1-1. It was an eventful second period as three goals were scored with Kristyna Oyola and Maria Pianetti striking for Puerto Rico before Georgia Harris replied for Bermuda, who trailed 3-2 at the break.
A Zoe Norton goal in the third quarter put Puerto Rico 4-2 up with Bermuda unable to muster any sort of fightback.
Moodley came into the tournament with high expectations of a top-four finish but losses against Barbados and Dominican Republic ended Bermuda’s hopes of making it through to the semi-finals.
A pool B success over Puerto Rico ensured they finished second from bottom in their group but a 2-0 defeat to Jamaica on Monday meant they faced Puerto Rico with the loser awarded the wooden spoon.
