Lauren Cardwell excited for opportunity at Toronto University
National women’s hockey team midfielder Lauren Cardwell is poised to showcase her talents for the University of Toronto.
The Bermudian is among six new recruits who will be looking to make the most of their opportunity to play at this level under head coach Cassius Mendonca.
Cardwell, who represented Bermuda at this summer’s Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is undertaking a course in Kenesiology at the University of Toronto.
“I chose University of Toronto because of the endless further opportunities I believe the school has to offer while being in a competitive but nurturing environment academically and athletically," she commented on the school’s official website.
Head coach Mendonca has welcomed the new recruits with open arms.
“Welcome to the University of Toronto Field Hockey programme, Class of 2023 women's field hockey rookies,” he commented on the school’s website.
“We are thrilled to have you join our team and become part of the rich tradition and culture that University of Toronto has built over the years.
“Our tradition of excellence has been shaped by the hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship of our athletes, coaches, and staff. We have a long history of success on and off the field, and we strive to uphold the values that have defined our programme throughout the years.
“Our athletes are not just players; they are scholars, leaders, and ambassadors of the university. We believe that the skills developed on the field will translate into our student-athletes academic pursuits and personal lives, enriching each of them as individuals.
“As we embark on this journey together, let us work collectively to make the University of Toronto Field Hockey programme even stronger and more respected.
“Welcome once again to the Blues family. Let's make this season one to remember. Go Blues!"
