Positive Image Dental shoot to the top in ball hockey league
Positive Image Dental defeated Hamilton Princess 7-4 at Pembroke Community Club on Monday to shoot to the top in the Bermuda Ball Hockey Association league.
It was the eighth win of the season for Positive Image Dental, which took them to 25 points, the same as second-placed Frontier, but the former are on top because they have registered more wins.
Shane Matchett scored three goals for Positive Image Dental, with the other goals provided by Matt McPhail, Brian Keats, Richard Campbell, and Mathieu Desjardins.
Hamilton Princess, bottom of the standings with just two wins, also had a hat-trick scorer in Matt Katzsch, with Bruce Jackson weighing in with the other goal.
Desjardins is happy with the way his team are playing as the league moves closer to the play-off stage.
“We are playing really well right now,’’ Desjardins. “Our goalie Matt Fullerton has been outstanding. He’s certainly the steal of the draft so far this season, but we need to continue playing this way.
“Credit to our GMs at the draft for picking up a well-rounded team as both lines are playing well up front and on defence.
“The mid-season draft helped us pick two great guys, Dustin Luck and Dave Campbell, Richard’s baby brother.
“We need to keep the momentum going into the last few games and into the play-offs.
“On Monday, I’d say we got a few lucky bounces and got ahead. On the HP side, they hit the post a few times, which could have changed the outcome of the game.”
In the other match played on Monday defending champions Appleby sufferd their sixth defeat of the season after Applied Computer Technologies prevailed 6-5 with ACT’s Ilia Gerassimov scoring his first league goal.
“It was an exciting back and forth game that came right down to the last minute,” Sean McNulty, the ACT captain said.
“A big highlight was when Ilia Gerassimov stole the ball off the defender and got himself a breakaway chance late in the third period. He fired a great shot that beat the goalie and put our team into the lead.
“Ilia has been in the league for several years and has learnt ball hockey alongside others that are new to the game.
“That was his first goal in the league and he celebrated in style. It was a fun moment for the rest of us out there to celebrate with him.”
