Business Bermuda focuses on investment
Making the most of your investment choices was the focus for Business Bermuda Local Awareness Committee’s last monthly luncheon seminar of the season. The sixth seminar of the series entitled ‘Investing 101: Making the Most of Your Investment Choices’ was hosted by Cindy Campbell, chief operating officer of AFL Investments, and Carla Seeley, senior wealth manager of AFL Investments, who provided a comprehensive overview on the basics of investing.Investing 101 began with the basic definition of investing and securities, different types of investment, including cash and cash equivalents, bonds or fixed income, stocks, and mutual funds. After explaining the pros and cons of each investment, the audience was encouraged to evaluate their lives and goals in order to determine the risk can tolerate.Ms Seeley said: “It’s important to understand your level of risk tolerance and take appropriate risks in relation to your goals. Not investing in the market isn’t really an option because you will not keep pace with inflation.”The presentation also included three secrets to becoming wealthy - don’t spend as much as you earn, use debt wisely, and guard your money from losses. It also covered basic investing strategies such as protecting your savings, earning income from your money, and making your investments grow.“You’ve worked hard for the money you made,” said Ms Campbell. “ Investing is about making your money work for you.”She said that the two keys to successful investing were diversification and investing regularly by putting a little aside every month. Both Ms Campbell and Ms. Seeley told the audience was about making a better life for yourself and for those you care about and the earlier you begin the better. The next series of seminars will start in the Autumn. For more information visit www.businessbermuda.org
