Students move to last leg of BMA graduate programme
Two Bermudian students are moving up in the financial regulatory world — as the Bermuda Monetary Authority’s star trainees complete the last leg of their graduate training programme (GTP).Vashun Blanchette and Treasa Fubler, will be the first two graduates of the three-year BMA programme after they complete international and local secondments. Mr Blanchette is currently seconded to the Bank of International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland while Ms Fubler recently completed her international secondment with Hiscox UK in London. Upon successfully completing the GTP, the trainees are offered full-time employment as analysts at the BMA.Started in 2008, the BMA launched the GTP, which sees trainees offered a personalised work track that supports their area of interest, paired with an executive mentor, rotated through supervisory departments and sent on local and international secondments. There are currently six trainees in the programme.Mesheiah Crockwell, head of human resources, said: “Through guidance and mentorship, collaboration and education, our trainees are placed on a path that allows them to participate in important work that directly impacts the stability of Bermuda’s economy. For those who feel that they are up for the challenge, applying to join our GTP can lead to a very rewarding career.”The BMA is now calling for applications for the programme as the deadline is looming — Thursday, May 31.BMA CEO Jeremy Cox said: “Through the GTP we provide young Bermudians with the opportunity to join our team and gain comprehensive knowledge and exposure to Bermuda’s financial services industry. Bermuda is a market leader in insurance, is positioned to be a major player in the fund sector, and is home to a banking sector of domestic importance.”To be eligible for the GTP, potential candidates must be:— Bermudian.— A university graduate with at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.— Intelligent and well-spoken with a strong business sense.— Able to produce high quality written and oral presentations.— Able to demonstrate basic knowledge of the insurance and/or financial services sectors.— Committed to a career in financial regulation for three years post completion of the Graduate Training Programme.— 21 years or older.Persons interested in applying to the programme can download an application form and a programme brochure from the Careers section of the BMA website: www.bma.bm.
