Deloitte scholarship brings Nisha step closer to being an actuary
Nisha Smith has been named the winner of the prestigious 2021 Deloitte scholarship.
The scholarship award offers up to $20,000 per year for a maximum of three years and is available to Bermudian students pursuing an undergraduate degree with an interest in accounting, actuarial, financial advisory, risk advisory or other business related studies.
“I'd like to express my sincere gratitude for being selected as the recipient of the Deloitte Scholarship, and I appreciate your recognition of my efforts,” Ms Smith said. “I am currently studying quantitative risk management and insurance with a concentration in actuarial science.”
She is a student at St John’s University in Queen’s, New York.
“While in school, I plan on passing as many preliminary actuarial exams as possible,” she said. “Thanks to Deloitte, I am one step closer to that goal.”
A spokesman for Deloitte said Ms Smith was chosen from an impressive group of young candidates. Ms Smith’s drive and determination to become an actuary impressed the scholarship committee.
“As I continue my journey, I am not only motivated to make myself and family proud, but my community proud as well,” Ms Smith said. “Being a Bermudian is such a privilege as there are many opportunities like this one, available on the Bermuda Scholarships website. I am looking forward to being a part of the exceptional team at Deloitte.”
She aims to return to Bermuda as a qualified actuary, becoming a role model for other Bermudian students who are interested in exploring this field.
“At Deloitte, we seek out individuals who are passionate about making an impact every day through meaningful, value-added work,” said Rachelle Frisby, partner in financial advisory.
“We seek to invest in local talent and hope to play a role in their continued development and career aspirations. Therefore, I am pleased to present Nisha with our 2021 Deloitte scholarship. Nisha has demonstrated commitment to her educational journey, and we congratulate her hard work and dedication towards pursuing her degree while also completing a number of her actuarial exams. Deloitte wishes her continued success in her studies.”
