DEEP learning for interns at Deloitte
Since June, Deloitte Bermuda has welcomed 13 interns into their DEEP [Deloitte Exclusive Experience Program] Internship Program.
DEEP provides young Bermudians with the opportunity to develop new skills and gain hands-on experience in the financial services industry.
The program is available for students interested in Accounting, Actuarial Science, Financial Advisory, Risk Advisory, Technology, Tax, Talent and Marketing and runs each summer from June through August.
The DEEP internship provides a unique environment for students to learn from skilled professionals while gaining work experience at an internationally recognized company. Interns are connecting with like-minded young people who are passionate about kick-starting their careers.
Each intern has been assigned a coach as well as a mentor, who provides them with new skills, tips, feedback and helps guide them throughout the program.
They participate in a DIVE [Deloitte’s International Virtual Experience] project, working in virtual groups with interns in other Deloitte offices across the Caribbean and Bermuda region.
The project culminates in a final presentation and helps to develop effective time-management, communication and research skills, and more. The topic assigned to each group is developed by business leaders within the firm and reflects real issues impacting businesses today.
This summer, projects are currently underway on topics such as IFRS17 accounting standards and Environment, Social and Governance criteria.
Derek Tucker-Peters, Information & Technology Intern, shares the following about his DIVE experience: “Throughout the DIVE process, I have had the opportunity to meet and connect with other students living in Bermuda and the Caribbean, and learn more about their culture and experience as an intern at Deloitte.
“It has also given me the chance to learn more about the financial services industry through the research we have completed. The entire project has been really amazing.”
During the 10-week program, DEEP Interns participate in “Impact Day”, Deloitte’s annual celebration of commitment to community investment in Bermuda.
On July 16th, interns set their work aside for the afternoon and volunteered with the Bermuda National Trust to clear the area of Paget Marsh Nature Reserve.
Ella Shanahan-Guay, Audit & Assurance Intern, describes her first Impact Day: “It was a rewarding experience to help the Bermuda National Trust in their efforts to preserve Bermuda’s endemic species. As a team we were able to maintain growth on pathways, pick up trash, and create suitable environments for plants and wildlife to thrive. It was a great display of Deloitte’s commitment to making an impact that matters in our community.”
Deloitte invites students and recent graduates to attend our student networking event on July 26th from 5:00-6:30pm at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. This networking event is designed for current university/college students, as well as recent high school graduates, to connect with financial services professionals, socialize, and benefit from the opportunity to learn more about the profession and ask questions.
