Genting JPLs update as liquidation proceeds
The joint provisional liquidators of a Bermudian-based tourism group have provided an update on the organisation’s business operations.
Bermudian-based Alex Whittaker, of R&H Services Limited in Hamilton, as well as Edward Middleton and Tiffany Wong, of Alvarez and Marsal in Hong Kong, issued the update for and on behalf of Genting Hong Kong Limited (in liquidation), which has been ordered to be wound up by the Supreme Court of Bermuda.
The statement by the JPLs was filed with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
They said the original main business operations of the Genting group were cruise operations through its Crystal Cruises, Dream Cruises and Star Cruises businesses, its general travel and leisure services, and ship-building and design services.
They added: “Certain of the group’s secured creditors have taken enforcement actions over substantially all of the vessel assets of the group.
“The group is not currently operating any cruises and the group will not be in a position to resume such operations in the future due to, inter alia, the winding-up of the company and Dream Cruises.”
The JPLs said the asset-disposal process of the other major assets of the group is at varying stages of completion.
They added: “On 31 August, 2022, the entire issued capital of Star Market, the principal business of which is to hold trademarks and intellectual property rights for the group, was disposed.
“The other major assets of the group include its equity interest in Resorts World Manila and its interests in certain residential and hotel properties in the People’s Republic of China.”
Genting and its indirect, non-wholly owned subsidiary Dream Cruises Holding Limited were ordered to be wound up by the Supreme Court this month.
Genting was incorporated in the Isle of Man in 1993 and continued in Bermuda in 2000.
DCHL was incorporated in Bermuda in 2015.
