Representatives of private industry and the Bermuda Government are in Mexico this week as part of a business development mission organised by the Bermuda Business Development Agency.

The BDA said the three-day Private Client Forum Americas 2023 in Playa Del Carmen, which wraps up Tuesday, is the island’s first such mission to Latin America since 2019.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy & Labour, is representing government at the event.

Mr Hayward said: “At a BDA-sponsored Bermuda Breakfast this morning, we reminded a select grouping of top international lawyers about the island’s key high-net-worth services attributes, as well as our Economic Investment Certificate.

“I am confident that Bermuda’s economy will receive long-term benefits from this renewed contact with the Latin American market. I congratulate the BDA on organising another successful business development mission.”

David Hart, CEO of the BDA, said: “The BDA tells the Bermuda story best to potential business makers overseas when we are joined arm-in-arm with our public sector and industry stakeholders.

“So along with the Minister, I also thank Stephanie Bernard, counsel, Carey Olsen, Trusts and Private Wealth; Gina Pereira, managing director – Client & Fiduciary Stewardship, Meritus; Anna Bruce-Smith, director, Conyers; and Satjivan Aujla, associate, Conyers for taking time away from their families to help promote Bermuda.”

Supporting the high-net-worth services industry is one of the BDA’s key strategic priorities and this Latin American mission follows Bermuda’s successful presence at an International Private Client Forum in Lake Como, Italy in November 2022, the organisation said.

The BDA said it also played an important role in the return of three major in-person high-net-worth services events to Bermuda last summer, the first since 2019.

In addition to overseas business development missions and providing financial support to important in-person events in Bermuda, the BDA said it assists this well-established sector via monthly trust and private client advisory group meetings.
