CHW lawyer joins Carey Olsen in Hong Kong
Bermuda market veteran Matthew Watson has joined Carey Olsen's Hong Kong dispute resolution and litigation team as a partner.
Mr Watson, who was most recently a director in the litigation department of CHW in Bermuda, has relocated to Hong Kong with Carey Olsen.
While in Bermuda, the firm said, he regularly advised on many complex contentious cases, often of a cross-border nature.
Mr Watson's practice primarily focusses on acting for high-net-worth clients and major corporations in insolvency and restructuring contexts, and trust and estate litigation.
He also has an array of commercial litigation experience such as acting in director and shareholder disputes, as well as banking, insurance, tax information exchange matters, and assisting private clients with professional negligence and matrimonial matters.
Prior to relocating to Bermuda, Mr Watson qualified and practised in Australia.
His appointment marks the second new partner this month for Carey Olsen's Hong Kong dispute resolution and litigation team, following the recent appointment of Tim Haynes.
Jeremy Lightfoot, partner and head of the Hong Kong dispute resolution and litigation team, said: "We have seen increased demand for Bermuda and Caribbean litigation instructions and partners of Matthew and Tim's calibre will no doubt reinforce the strength, service offering and expertise within the team to meet this demand.
“We are particularly pleased to have drawn Matthew from Bermuda to Asia. Bolstering the Hong Kong dispute resolution practice is essential to the next stage of our strategy, and we are delighted to have Matthew on board with his vast on-the-ground Bermuda experience."
