Bermudian heading Boston ad agency honoured
The American Institute of Graphic Artists Boston has selected Bermuda native, Daren Bascome, the managing director of branding and advertising firm Proverb Agency, as one of three awardees of the 2024 Fellows.
Mr Bascome’s marketing agency has done work for the Bermuda Tourism Authority.
The AIGA Fellows programme was instituted to recognise “designers who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within their local or regional design community as well as in their local AIGA chapter.”
“This is a profound honour and I’m both humbled and grateful,” said Mr Bascome. “Past honourees include many creative people whom I deeply admire and they’ve set a standard I’ll do my best to sustain.”
This year’s recipients and their contributions to the Boston design community will be celebrated on October 1.
Mr Bascome studied design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design or “MassArt” from 1989–1992, and was recently appointed vice-chair of MassArt’s Board of Trustees.
He has been recognised as a “Most Influential Bostonian” by Boston Magazine and among the city’s Most Influential Men of Colour by Get Konnected!
Mr Bascome sits on the board of Mass Marketing Partnership and is an overseer at Boston’s MFA.
Under his leadership since its founding in 1997, Proverb Agency has worked for clients apart from the BTA that include Embrace Boston; Franklin Cummings Tech; the City of Boston; The Boston Foundation; United Way of MassBay; Mass General; Harvard University; The New England Aquarium; Pine Street Inn; and National Grid.
