Dockworkers call off overtime ban
Dockworkers have called off a ban on working overtime after a vote by members earlier this week.
The ban was imposed by unionised staff on February 21, as part of an ongoing dispute with management over the sacking of a colleague three years ago.
But the action lasted less than a week. Regular services were resumed on Monday following a vote by workers.
Warren Jones, the chief executive of Polaris Holding Company and Stevedoring Services, the dock operator, confirmed that regular services had resumed.
Mr Jones added: “We have had normal operations since. I have no information on their reasons for lifting the ban.”
According to Mr Jones, the Bermuda Industrial Union had called for the sacked employee to be reinstated – a demand that management “cannot agree to”.
Earlier, Mr Jones had said that the ban was having “a limited impact” on services.
