Bermuda labour relations studied by Turks and Caicos
Delegates from the Turks and Caicos Islands’ labour tribunal have called on Bermuda to observe the workings of the Bermuda Employment and Labour Relations Tribunal.
Jason Hayward, the economy and labour minister, said the visit, aimed at helping both countries, was requested by the Turks and Caicos tribunal president, M. Doreen Quelch Missick.
Delegates were guided during their visit by Ed Ball Jr, president of the tribunal, and headed back on March 16 after one week.
Bermuda’s procedures were observed by tribunal secretary Lucille Campbell with tribunal officer Alice Williams and administrative officer Winnifred Stubbs.
The group met other organisations, including the Human Rights Commission, the Human Rights Tribunal and the Department of Workforce Development.
Bermuda's labour arbitration and employment tribunal panels were consolidated in June 2021 under the Employment Amendment Act 2021.
However, the island brings a substantial record of arbitrating labour and employment matters.
Mr Ball called the visit “exceptional”, welcoming continued collaboration with Turks and Caicos and other jurisdictions.
