Bermuda too expensive
February 20, 2011Dear Sir,I just commented on a story on tourism statistics and repeated it here:Quality (high-end visitors) vs. quantity (middle class visitors). I'll guess the cruise ship visitors are the latter. Which group is the largest, and by how much? The Reefs will always be full, but not most of the other high-end hotels. During my 42 visits I have seen so many hotels close. There are too few hotels that are moderately priced. Visitors can go to other destinations and get much more for their money… and they have. See Mexico, Vegas, DR, etc. Cruising has replaced the moderately priced hotels in Bermuda. I see them advertised here in NY for less than $1,000 per week. So without paying for airfare, that is a huge bargain. Most hotels in Bermuda are around $300 per night - without meals. Do the maths. I have been staying in a guest house for years, and now in apartments. But I spend money on meals, transportation, and anything else that is not included on a cruise. I would prefer to stay at the likes of Marley Beach or the Sonesta, but guess what? And that's my humble opinion. See ya in May!RON LACEYMassapequa, New York
