Who was in charge?
March 23, 2011.Dear Sir,I am writing to your concerning the state of this year’s, or more correct by last year’s census. Last year, right at the very onset of the census, my husband and I, both in our eighties, decided to exercise our right to have an enumerator come to our house, rather then give out our personal information over the telephone, to a complete stranger. Accordingly, we called the appropriate number, and requested that this be done, and were assured that this would be taken care of. Since then, months and months and months have elapsed, with absolutely nothing! Then last week, out of the blue, we received not one, not two, but five calls in one evening, endeavoring to get us to co-operate over the phone! It was extremely harassing, and finally we angrily told them they must visit us if they wanted our information, and they said someone would call in the next day. We waited in all day, but of course no one came.I myself was an enumerator twice for the census in the past, and we did not have any of these problems then. We were given thorough and detailed training first, after which we were allocated a district, which we covered diligently and everything was done in a completely discreet and confidential manner. Moreover, all our forms were completed and handed in on time. Finally, I wish to add that the 2010 census has been a disgrace, especially with all the dire threats of heavy fines, and more recently, the attempt to coerce people to go in to certain venues in town to complete their forms. Where are the enumerators, and who is in charge of the operation?ANGRY SENIORSmith
