VISITORS' VIEWS

A Hamilton Harbour ferry

April 5, 2011Dear Sir,We are dismayed about the possible cut of weekend ferry service on the Paget/Warwick route. As annual visitors to Bermuda for the past 25 years, we and our friends and family who come with us not only rely on the ferry for most of our transportation, but see it as one of the most important and unique aspects of the Bermuda “experience.” We are sure all visitors feel the same way. Many island properties, such as Salt Kettle House where we stay, are not within easy access of bus routes. In addition, there are frequently not enough taxis available on the weekends already, and we have several times been stranded on weekend nights, resorting to the kindness of local strangers to give us a ride.Although the government may seem to save a bit of money by cutting service, it is very clear that this move will eventually cost more than it saves, and put another roadblock in the way of tourism. The ripple effect on shops and restaurants in Hamilton will also be significant. Finally, please consider also the people you will be putting out of work, both directly and indirectly through this move. These apparent cost-cutting measures will surely have an impact well beyond any savings. These are true Bermudian jobs.ERIKA ARCHIBALDAtlanta, GeorgiaGrateful to managerApril 5, 2011Dear Sir,A letter of appreciation is a must for the manager of Frangipani Boutique in St. Georges.I was enjoying the festival and shopping on Saturday, March 24 when I left my wallet in the Frangipani Boutique. It wasn't realized until Sunday morning with the only identification being a Canadian phone number. To my amazement, Marion Paynter from Frangipani's phoned Canada and spoke to my daughter who provided her with my contact phone number in Bermuda. Marion then contacted me and returned my wallet.I thought that people should know the trouble and expense involved to contact the owner of a lost wallet in order to return it. She accepted no compensation. Thanks so much.FRIEDA HEARDSudbury, Ontario
