Worried about crime

May 1, 2011Dear Sir,I have been visiting Bermuda since the age of 8 with my parents and my family for summer holidays. Bermuda is one of my most favourite places to visit with many many wonderful memories. As the years have passed, my husband and I visited every year and now bring along our children. Our children have grown and now in their 20s have been vacationing with us in Bermuda. They share many the same lovely memories of history, mopeds, sightseeing, fun in the sun, Front street, nightlife etc. So in summary we have been visiting Bermuda over the last 45 years and have loved every visit. We will be visiting again this summer, but with some apprehension. We have always felt safe in Bermuda and I read The Royal Gazette online daily so I can keep up with the news and activities. The crime related to gangs is a major concern to us and the recent shootings in Pembroke. We have written correspondence to our hotel and have not heard back related to our concerns with this violence. We feel certain that they do not want to confirm our worries. We would like to know our kids can go to Front Street and enjoy the nightlife socialising without thinking about the worst. Has the environment changed that dramatically? Do we need to be concerned? Your response is encouraged.DEBORAHNew York City
