May 5, 2011Dear Sir,I am writing this letter in response to varying views of the formation of the new OBA party. I was there as a voting member on that night and I can say I felt a surge of new hope that I hope will spread to other Bermudians.Some critics are already trying to voice the typical PLP rhetoric. Stop before you look foolish. This is not the UBP under a new name. The UBP has been laid to rest. The BDA has been laid to rest. This is a new party. Does it have some members from both former parties? Yes it does, but why cast out people with good ideas? This is a mixing of experienced members, young members, and new people with fresh ideas. This is an excellent and viable new party. This is not a situation of 1+1=2 again. This is 1+1=3.People, do not fall into the PLP false impressions. The PLP Government needs to focus on themselves. They've failed all Bermudians in their tenure as Government. They have ruined all the good we once had. We were the diamond of the Atlantic, but we are fast becoming a cheap fake gem.To those nostalgic members who wish to cling to the UBP. I ask you to stop and think. This new party does stand for many of the core principles of the UBP. It is those core principles you should want to see carried on, not old practices and a name. Those principles are what had Bermuda booming during many years of prosperity that the PLP has successfully destroyed. Give this new party a chance! We need you, experienced members of the public, to join and help teach the new members. We need new members to help show the experienced ones fresh ideas. This is an exciting time, not a time to mourn.I supported the UBP as Young United, but the time had come for what the public at large wanted: Change. Bermudians, we must change the Island and fast.Many are jobless, in debt, damaged by violence and fed up with this PLP government.
