Seeking the positive

June 14, 2011Dear Sir,As I sit looking at the front page of The Royal Gazette newspaper, I am deeply puzzled as to why The Royal Gazette feels it necessary to display negative news on the front page every day.Over the weekend there were 16 Bermudian young ladies representing the Island in The Miss Bermuda contest. One would have thought that on Monday morning the newly crowned Miss Bermuda, Miss Jana Lynn Outerbridge would have been headlines. NO, David Cox, Yankee and the Uighurs were once again headlining the morning paper with more negativity! Is the RG going to say they did not receive the report from The Miss Bermuda Contest in time to make the Monday morning paper? Well today is Tuesday … where is it? Again, more depressing, negative news.Yes, Bermuda is in turmoil and a handful of our young people are going astray. What about the ones who aren't? Maybe if we begin to speak the positive, print the positive and live positively our young people will emulate us and strive to be better.Let's focus more on positive things and see what happens!SHARON EVEWarwickEditor's Note: The Royal Gazette recognises the public desire for positive news in the newspaper and strives to provide a balance of news on the front page, depending on the circumstances of the day. In the case of the Miss Bermuda Pageant, The Royal Gazette was refused permission to cover the event and photographs subsequently provided to this newspaper were not of publishable quality. This was a disappointment as The Royal Gazette had given a substantial amount of coverage to the return of the Pageant prior to the event itself and was keen to cover it fully and properly.
