The people are watching

June 27, 2011Dear Sir,Premier Paula Cox’s appointment as Premier was referred to as a coronation. The crown atop her head is that of Princess Traveller. Nassau, London, Vancouver, Washington DC, London, Brussels ... and that’s what we know about. Some of that travel at the expense of National Heroes Day, John Evans’ funeral and a few other events — not the Queen’s Birthday Parade however. The rub though is that in the eight months of this Administration there has not been one Parliamentary question from the Opposition on travel. Not one. When Dr. Brown missed events at the expense of being overseas, no matter how important to Bermuda, there was criticism from your newspaper, sir, and from the Opposition. Now not a word from anyone.Lest the Cabinet Office be lulled into a false sense of security, some Bermudians are watching the air miles, the accompanying entourage and the decisions made on what to miss. Just because this newspaper and the Opposition ignore it doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Makes me wonder if travel really was the issue where Dr. Brown was concerned.AS SIMONSPaget
