A dumb move
September 8, 2011Dear Sir,Are they kidding? How can it be a new school year when they made redundant 20 to 30 teachers last year including special needs teachers to deal with children with autism and other special needs (read September 7's Royal Gazette)? What's in it for them now that they're out of a job as a teacher?Jobs are scarce these days and this happens to them ... now what?Grant Gibbons (although he's unfortunately a politician), is right when he's talking about economic issues, ie; why make redundant special needs teachers? Was it really the teachers that were the problem, or the fact that you only have two senior secondary schools instead of at least five? Don't you (Ministry of Education) think it was dumb on your part to lay off these people? Regarding the regular students (teenagers who are serious about working day release), I feel they should still be allowed to come to the jobs they like going to (don't shut that down too!). Younger children, who come with adults who have to always yell at them to do any type of work ... I wonder about that ... no home training or are some students slower learners than others?ANONYMOUSDevonshire
