October 18, 2011Dear Sir,Yesterday your paper printed a letter by Eva N. Hodgson entitled, ‘Party politics has hurt us’, and I noticed a statement in the letter which is factually incorrect.The writer states: “Since party politics, what policy has benefitted every black person? It took 30 years to get a black majority in the House of Assembly. Without the divisiveness of party politics it would have taken less than a decade!’By my count it did take less than a decade.The first general election under party politics was in 1968 and the House of Assembly was majority black in 1976 (21 MPs out of 40 were black)!
