We've gone downhill
Dear Sir,I well agree with Mr. Trevor Moniz and West End Sandy’s letter of Thursday, October 20, 2011.Bermuda has gone downhill fast under what ever Government be it UBP or PLP. Neither party has done a single thing for the good of the people, i.e. light bill fuel rise, importation of foods, vegetables, building equipment, furniture, gas, we are at the mercy of rising duty cost, and to add insult to injury $100 duty exempt for families travelling abroad. What a laugh. We are seeing perons losing jobs, hotels beds are empty, rates too high, and Island with pink sand to offer tourist and nothing else as most of the tourist travel on package deals, where are we that we cannot form some kind of customer incentive write off to encourage persons to come here.No College WeeksNo Easter LilliesNo Fire WorksWe the people seem to be taken from at every avenue, mothers trying to be fathers and keep the family fed roof over their heads, food in their stomachs, pay bills, and the suppose to be fathers are in the clubs, gambling dens, making additional babies with one girl or the other, and the rest of the tax payers are stressed out and tired from all the deductions taken from them. BPSU is in the negotiation stage once more with the Government and a 1.5% increase still stands. We try as we may to meet our obligations. Why is it we do not have coupons, discounts daily, on items that are essential to most of items we need daily. Bread, sugar, hams, dish detergents, cream, butter, soap, laundry detergents. Market Place can only do so much as the other supermarkets but the prices are still high and most time the produce are not up to standard i.e. strawberries are bad after one day of purchase. Most items are imported for we should be given a relief on duty to be able to pass the saving on to us the purchaser. This letter is meant to let off steam, be it you print it yes or no. I am a taxpayer and no where to go to get relief as we pay school fees, lights, food, clothes, phone, mortgages, rent and some families have up to 2 or 3 persons in a household trying to make ends meet.I remember back in the day the Tea Cosy Restaurant Trimingham’s, HA&E Smith’s Ltd. we a sign of things in the future those stores have been here for as long as I can remember. We have seen our economy go down hill in a short spat of time. There is not enough paper to write all of the disgruntles as Cablevision are also one of the problems with their public service viewing and the package prices they offer are high for sub-standard service.WHAT WILL BECOME OF US?City of Hamilton
