Uniforms are about discipline
Discipline is neededDecember 6, 2011Dear Sir,Would you indulge and let me weigh into the blazer debate. On the surface, the story is about the school blazer. But the real story is about discipline or the lack thereof.Every aspect of life involves some form of discipline, from daily things we learn from the home such as making your bed, brushing your teeth, washing your face in the morning to dressing correctly and smartly. That constant practice teaches us to not only look after ourselves but also instils pride and confidence within ourselves. Each task we do is a discipline, from home to school, home to church, home to visiting family and relatives. As small as each one maybe, collectively they combine to teach us the discipline we will need to succeed in life. One day, you will have children, and that day you will appreciate what your parents taught you because you have now achieved the necessary discipline that is required to pass down to your children for them to succeed. There has been a serious decline in our society over the last 30 years and a lack of discipline is at the heart and core of it all.I yearn for the day when our young men will wear their pants at the waist and not in the back of their hamstrings, their shoes (polished) and sneakers laced up, hair cut at four inches or less with no curly rolls. From the ties snuggled up under the chin to the shirts tucked into the pants. If you don’t teach discipline, then how is a child supposed to learn.Discipline is not the enemy! It should be as close to you as your shadow. Without it, we will have difficulty coping in any environment.BROWNLOW ADDERLEYSouthampton
