Non-typists need not apply
January 7, 2012Dear Sir,Re: Government of Bermuda advertisement for applicants for a vacancy of a Puisne Judge, January 5, 2012 (Copy of advertisement attached). If ever a confirmation of Government cuts was needed, here is a perfect example. Listed as “highly desirable” among the professional attributes of an applicant for a position of a judge “expected to handle a high volume of complex work quickly and confidently”, are “computer and typing skills”.“Typing skills”?The supportive roles of typists, stenographers, secretaries, personal assistants, clerks and general office personnel continue to be eroded into ultimate obsolescence without the innovation of alternative avenues of potential employment. If this continues, the age-old tradition of Bermuda’s exporting of onions will be revived, only this time around, the onions will be two-legged ones.TACITURNUSWarwick
