VISITOR’S VIEW
Worried by vagrantsJanuary 18, 2012Dear Sir,I am a frequent visitor to Bermuda. As a single traveller aged 65, one of the primary reasons Bermuda appeals to me is that I generally feel safe there. On my last visit in December 2011, I repeatedly approached by persons asking for money on the street. This does make me uncomfortable as noted by one commenter on the article, which ran in today’s edition. I walk a great deal and twice I had people pull up to me on the road and offer me rides. When I declined, they asked for money. I was very surprised by this behaviour as I had never experienced such in Bermuda. While waiting for my flight back to the USA, I was approached by a woman who asked to interview me about my visit to Bermuda. She asked me at the completion of the interview if I would like to be contacted by the Department of Tourism to follow up on some of the observations I had. I said I would welcome it. I have not to date heard from them.I believe Bermuda tourism authorities should be actively engaged in seeking feedback from visitors.MARY McNAUGHTPinnacle, North Carolina
