Praise for Dr Hodgson
January 18, 2012Dear Sir,Somewhat belatedly, I wish to add my voice to the chorus of accolades that are being bestowed upon Dr. Eva Hodgson. My greatest experience, to date, is to have visited Kenya in September of the year 2010. Though saddled with a ton of books on Kenyan history: cherry-topped by Mr. Dale Butler’s compendium H.I.M. Haile Selassie in Bermuda; I can still recall, whilst lounging in front of the clubhouse fireplace, my discovery of an epistle that was included within its pages entitled “A World View and a Sense of History”.Referring to the significance of the African states and the individual African, you wrote:‘ ... the heads of state and the policymakers of the nations know now, that in the interest of their own self-preservation, whatever attitude or line of action they may chose to adopt, one thing is certain: they cannot be ignored.” [p. 33, Para. 1],Relatedly, and as a siren to the younger generation, but also as homage to the legions of Freedom Fighters here and across the globe, Diasporians in Bermuda would be wise, especially now, to consider your efforts and also the words of His Imperial Majesty when he passionately declared:“We must therefore be prepared to make all issues affecting our continent figure prominently and persevere in our efforts to have the United Nations reassert its historic obligation to Liberate territories still under foreign domination” [Speech to the Organisation of African Unity, Seventh Summit, September 2, 1970].May Almighty God bless your deliberations and legacy.MORE FIRESouthampton
