Support for Caetano Fernandes
April 12, 2012Dear Sir,I read with disgust and dismay the report that Caetano Fernandes has been deported because he was “caught red-handed by undercover immigration officials” as he worked behind the bar at Riddell’s Bay Golf Club. In the meantime, robbers and pistol-packing gangsters terrorise innocent people, but are not caught red-handed.What sort of society deports a harmless Indian citizen for a minor infraction? I know Mr Fernandes from the dining room at Riddell’s Bay, and he is an efficient decent hardworking person. Why such drastic action by the bullies at Immigration? As a Bermudian, I am ashamed that this man has been treated like a criminal. For a government that prides itself as being descended from slaves, it is a disgrace that they treat this man in a manner that would make a slave master proud. I will never buy a drink at Riddell’s Bay bar again.ROBERT STEWARTFlatts
