April 11, 2012Dear Sir,Okay, he’s back and one can assume he has a plan. A few weeks ago he somehow managed to speak at a Cayman forum, giving the impression he was speaking for Bermuda. Clearly, Premier Cox didn’t demur or Cayman would not have asked him to speak. So, she was either intimidated by him, or, she wanted him on the platform. At that forum, he insulted the United Kingdom. Then, on April 10, he called a press conference and insulted Bermuda’s Governor and, at the same time, called upon the UK to assist him in a couple of projects he has in mind. (Remember, just a few weeks previously, he insulted the UK.) In this recent statement to the press, he has by his side one of the most expensive QCs in criminal law in the business. That isn’t intended to be a non sequitur — I mention it because it must have some relevance.After he has finished insulting the Governor, as well as the Commissioner of Police and the Auditor General, he called upon the UK to intercede in Court proceedings in Canada, and, would the UK please chastise Governor Gozney for ‘harming’ Bermuda. I would have thought that the person who has done the most harm to Bermuda is Dr B. Definitely, he has a beef with Auditor Generals — he didn’t like Larry Dennis, and, it is clear he is not too fond of Heather Jacobs Matthews. The fact that they are in the oversight business might just have something to do with his aversion to any AG. He objects to being linked to any sort of corruption claims. Maybe, he’d prefer to be deemed incompetent? The TCD project comes immediately to mind and if space allowed, quite a few other projects, too — huge over runs to the tune of millions of dollars. If there was no corruption there was certainly gross incompetence. Without the facts at our disposal, we cannot be faulted for speculating.What can we expect from Dr B in this election year? He will want the PLP to retain power and we can assume he will want to continue calling the shots. His ‘plantation’ rants seemed to be effective in the last disgraceful election, so, he’ll probably go with a few more of those. He may try a little race-baiting to see if he can get a white reaction. That would be nice for him — an extra bonus. Whatever it is that is going on in his mind, it won’t be good for Bermuda. Why he wants to bring our little island to its knees is a mystery to me but, clearly, that’s what he wants. The last big question is, are we going to let him succeed?KATH BELLPaget
