Take the right bus

May 7, 2012Dear Sir,In response to Christopher Famous,It sounds like you are an intelligent and educated gentleman, Christopher. However, I question your undying loyalty to your “family” of PLP politicians.Do you have any children? Picture this: Two buses, both supposed to be travelling to a better, brighter future. One, though, is damaged. The engine is faulty due to poor maintenance, and it is driven by someone whose motivation and principles seem to be questionable, as evidenced by ten past years of more of poor decision making, bad driving (management), and many many accidents that have harmed most of the very people the driver promises to protect and care for. This driver does not seem to have a plan or a map to the better, brighter future, and not much actual real experience driving a bus. This driver seems hell-bent on ignoring all advice and careening off in a direction that is sure to lead the bus off a cliff, looking backwards all the time, to the peril of all on board, causing damage and injury to many along the way.The second bus, newer, with fresh oil in the engines, is purring nicely and in good shape. It is manned by an experienced, wise driver, who has watched and learned from the other driver’s errors over the past few years. He has offered advice and suggestions to the other driver about how to get to the better, brighter future, but that advice has been pointedly ignored and in fact, blatantly rejected just because it came from the other driver. However, this driver remains confident that he knows how to get there, is always watching the road ahead, knows that he has the ability to take the passengers to the better brighter future safely, with care and concern for all on board. The second driver has a plan, consults a map showing the way forward, and drives safely and with care for all on board.Which bus would you put your children on? Which bus would you get on?I fear for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who will already have to bear much of the burden that has been inflicted upon them by our current Government if there are many others who like you, Christopher Famous, who will get on that first bus, and put the lives of your children and theirs and future generations at such terrible risk, by continuing to support the PLP on this perilous journey they have begun. Just because…How very very sad that will be for our Bermuda.D MARTINWarwick
