Policy is killing jobsMay 20, 2012Dear Sir,In a column published in the Bermuda Sun on May 18, Government MP Walter Roban concluded that the term limits policy has not been a job killer for Bermudians. He is mistaken. I know because my company provides employment services to many international businesses so I have a front row seat as jobs leave Bermuda. The resulting hardship for Bermudians is heartbreaking.Consequently, I have invited Mr Roban to meet with me personally so that I can provide him with specific examples of many jobs that have left Bermuda due to our current immigration policy. I will also demonstrate how the term limits policy is actually failing in its primary objective of preventing the creation of a large pool of future long-term residents.This issue is critically important for Bermuda. Therefore, I am extending the same invitation to any political leader that is interested in knowing specifically how our present work permit and term limits policy causes jobs to leave Bermuda.For me this is not a political issue. This is about how the unnecessary export of international business jobs is harming every Bermudian. Every construction worker. Every bartender. Every hotel worker. Every taxi driver. Every wholesaler. Every retailer. Every landlord. Every professional. Every clerical employee. Every public servant. Absolutely everyone.Of all the serious problems that Bermuda faces, none can be addressed more easily and quickly than the export of jobs from Bermuda.
