Rewarding criminals
Rewarding convictsMay 17, 2012Dear Sir,From today’s story on prisoner reforms, it appears that the PLP has rewarded convicted criminals to the detriment of law abiding Bermudians.Commit a crime, get convicted and sent to Westgate, do your time while getting three square meals a day, clothing and health cover and come out after doing a tiny fraction of the original sentence and walk into a Government job.I know hard working kids and adults who are law abiding and although not academically inclined and have the right attitude and practical skills to do at least entry level Government jobs but don’t get the opportunity. We spend $80,000 a year pampering a convicted criminal and then the taxpayers employ them at probably a similar sum once employer costs are factored in. Is there something wrong here or is it just the PLP making sure the precedents are set just in case we ever get that Royal Commission on unexplained expenditure?CRIME DOES PAYPembroke
