No record of Hall seeking appointment
July 20, 2012Dear Sir,I write in response to a letter published today in your newspaper from Brian R. Hall, OBE.I am sure it will come as a surprise to many that I still have records of our time in Government from 1998 and there is no evidence of Mr Brian Hall ever attempting to see the then-Premier. In fact, I can think of countless people from the business community and the community generally who were successful in getting an appointment to see the Premier whose policy it was to see anyone who asked for an appointment. I well remember that the only challenge was getting an appointment within two weeks during those early days but she saw everyone who asked. I have also checked with her aide who booked appointments and she has no recollection of Mr Hall ever attempting to make an appointment. What is even more curious is that I actually know Mr Hall, albeit not well, from my days working in the insurance industry from 1978 to 1994, and while I was in the Regiment where he graciously donated to the renovations of the Officer’s Mess in 1990 so I am at a complete loss to understand why he would believe I blocked any attempt he would have made to see the then- Premier. Equally as curious is that he waited 14 years to complain!LT COL DAVID A BURCH OBE (MIL), ED, JP
