They brought on themselves

August 30, 2012Dear Sir,Family I am no political scientist but let’s examine where the United Bermuda Party turned Bermuda Democratic Alliance turned One Bermuda Alliance MPs have been placed —C6 — Donte Hunt vs Wayne FurbertC31 — Shawn Crockwell vs Charlie Swan and Scott SimmonsC25 — Mark Pettingill vs Dale ButlerLet’s do the math — These gents have been turfed out to almost unwinnable seats. So it seems fairly obvious this was not a merger, this was a takeover. Further evidence will show that the OBA “leader” is not Mr. Craig Cannonier, but indeed Michael Dunkley. Anyone listening to the recent interview these two gave on the Everest Decosta show, will have heard for themselves that Mr Cannonier could not answer simple questions put forward by callers. Mr Dunkley had to jump in and save him like this was some tag team on WWE.I genuinely feel sorry for the BDA minded liberals, because as Mr Tom Vesey wrote in his column in the Bermuda Sun dated April 27 2012 “More than anything else, the UBP was killed by its inability to attract black voters, no matter how hard it felt it was trying, and no matter how poorly it felt the PLP was performing ... The next step was to try to step away from the problem and form a new party. That was the genesis of the Bermuda Democratic Alliance. But it didn’t take more than a single by-election to demonstrate that it would end up running against the UBP, making the PLP Government almost impossible to defeat.“The next logical step, of course, was to merge the new BDA with the old UBP and call it something different. And hope the old UBP white stigma will drop away, at least a little, with a new name, some new faces, and the disappearance of a lot of the old guard.” Essentially the BDA folks now are little more than window dressing for the real power house,” Uncle UBP. I don’t know ... I’m hearing all this talk that BDA minds are saying they refuse to run in seats they know they won’t win and the UBP folks have to fill in the blanks. Whatever the situation, it is one they brought on themselves … ‘Caveat Emptor’ — A Latin phrase for “let the buyer beware.” The term is primarily used in real property transactions. Essentially it proclaims that the buyer must perform their due diligence when purchasing an item or service. This is what happens when you do a deal with “Uncle UBP”. You end up in the BDA triangle … never to be seen again. Until next time Stand Strong FamilyCHRISTOPHER FAMOUSDevonshire
